Cache Studio Art Tour Guidelines

2024 Holiday Tour, November 22 & 23, 2024

In 2021 a small group of local artists organized a holiday tour to open their studios to the public. We later added a tour in the Spring. This year, we hope to expand the tour to include other studio artists within Cache Valley Utah. Our upcoming Holiday Tour is scheduled for November 22 & 23, 2024. The tour runs from 10 AM to 7 PM on both days.

We invite artists who have an active working studio and who reside in Cache Valley Utah to apply. There is no fee to apply, but there is a small fee to participate. Additionally, studios may choose to have one or more guest artists join them in their studios. Here are details about the tour.

Juried event. We will have a jury to ensure that participating artists are local to Cache Valley Utah, have a working studio that is available for the public to visit, and maintain a level of quality for the art. Depending upon the number of applications, we may cap the number of studios to keep the event manageable for our small team of organizers.

Participation fees. $35 for each studio; $25 per guest artist(s) who join a host studio. Upon notification of acceptance of your application, you will have 10 days to pay your fee. Fees are non-refundable.

Duration of Tour. You must have a studio that is open to the public for the entire time of the tour. This means that you must be comfortable inviting the public into your space.

Guest Liability.  By participating in the tour, you agree to assume all responsibility for guests when they are on your premises.

Advertising. There will be limited advertising in local media, along with social media ads. Note that we are a small group of artists acting at the grass roots level. Advertising is costly, and we are trying to keep fees to a minimum. Our best source of advertising is you and your efforts to get the word out to your contacts.

Signage. Participating studios will receive a yard sign to display in their yard during the tour.

Promotional Material. Participating studios will receive a digital version of a poster and postcard that can be self-printed. There will also be files available to include in your personal advertising.

Demos. We have found that guests are eager to hear how we create our art. We encourage all artists to have demos during the tour. If your process does not lend itself to real-time demos, consider using a storyboard or some way that you can convey to your guests how you create your art. Guests are more likely to buy art if they know the story behind the art and/or the artist.

Studio Drawing. Each studio is encouraged to offer a drawing for a gift basket/small piece of art for those who visit your studio. This is incentive for guests to visit, and it is also an opportunity to increase your contact list. Collecting names for the drawing can be as simple as using a notebook to collect names and email addresses.

Studio List. A list of participating studios and their addresses will be placed on a web page. This will be the list that guests use for the tour. If a participating studio (i.e., host studio) has guests artists, they will be included in the list.

Commitment. Your commitment to participate in the tour if accepted is critical for its success. We do realize that “things happen” beyond anyone’s control. We respectfully ask that if you must withdraw from the tour you do so no later than November 11, 2024, when we will finalize our list of participating studios. You must be available and in your studio for the duration of the tour. It will not reflect well on you as an artist or the studio tour if you are not available to receive guests during the hours of the tour.

Taxes. Names and contact information for all participating studios and their guest artists will be submitted to the Utah State Tax Commission. If you are a host studio who is an established artist in the state of Utah who files quarterly sales tax (or on another interval), you will pay taxes on any sales you make during the tour as usual. If you are not set up with the state to pay quarterly sales tax, you will submit taxes on sales during the tour through a Special Events License. Guest artists at your studio will submit taxes on sales during the tour through a Special Events License regardless of whether or not they hold a state tax ID. The Utah State Tax office will mail a Special Events tax form after the tour to artists who are required to file via a Special Events form.

Apply. To apply, submit a short artist’s bio, one or more photos of your studio and artwork, and a link to your artist website or other on-line presence to: jestersbaubles at gmail dot com
